Maybe I'm better off just getting a small inverter to run the TV/Satellite on its own then?
First rule any electrical build/design,
KNOW YOUR LOADS !I figured you were running a residential refrigerator or hoping to get an extra hour or two of A/C after "quiet time". Sounds like a 3000W inverter is overkill. Samlex does make a 1200W but it does NOT have all of the bells and whistle.
Just remember, no more coffee and toast when you are bondocking without firing up the generator !

Assuming the converter is a decent size (I upgraded my last unit and it made a HUGE difference plus no more boiled batteries).
It is not so much the size of the coverter/charger as it is the quality/capability of the charger. Most standard converters do NOT have a multi-stage charging controller.
If all you plan on running is some entertainment equipment and maybe a laptop get a 500W pure sine wave inverter. Place it where you can see the power light. Use a power strip. Not as clean, but a whole lot less $$$ !
