So I just installed a basic set up. I'm not an avid boondocker. Although I may find myself off the grid once or twice a year.I have a built in Onan 5500 if I really want power. However I just installed a 1100 watt inverter to power my 42" TV and possibly my laptop. It is a simple installation using my existing group 31 12 volt batteries and a extension cord located behind the entertainment center.
I went with a 1100 watt inverter to allow me to expand my quiet electric usage in the future. As I said I don't go off the grid very often but if I had a nice inverter set up maybe I would do it more often.
My long winded question is should I have went with a smaller inverter if all I plan to do is use it for TV watching.
How well will my 12 volt group 31 batteries perform, will they allow me to watch TV 2-3 hours a night over a long weekend?
I'm just getting started into this inverter thing. It's sort of an experiment for me to see if I like off grid camping and will I alter my camping style enough to actually use the inverter regularly.
