inverter

We have a class c motorhome with a good generator. When we dry camp I have to run it all night due to a medical problem. Do you know of an inverter that could run a cpap machine all night?

  • We tried to hook up a 12 V plug by my bed once, and it didn't work very well. *shrug*

we also drug a marine battery into the rv a long time ago, directly hooking up the CPAP with clips, and it stopped in about 20 minutes.
  • The inverter will use as much power as the cpap machine. Running the cpap direct off the battery is very desirable.
  • our Class A has an inverter, and we charge the battery during the day. No need for a generator all night. That sure would keep me awake more than the apnea lol I even use my humidifier.

Been using a CPAP now for about 20-years, & all I do is dry camp. There are many newer models on the market now that operate on AC / DC. Depending on whether you use a humidifier or not, will determine power consumption. With a humidifier, it will consume approx. 4 amps per hour, & that depends upon the model & upon your heat settings etc. I use a small "dedicated" 35amp AGM deep cycle battery to operate mine, but I don't need a humidifier. It will last about 3-4 nights before charging is needed. Another thing, I have a CPAP in the house, another one for the RV & a third as back-up. I purchased the one for the RV off Craig's List. It is a Remstar, & only had 18 hours on it, came with the DC power cord as part of the package ($115) Very small & compact, perfect for an RV. I re-set the "pressure" myself.
  • Thank you so much. I didn't know a cpap like this existed. I am checking into buying one before the rally in Phoenix.
  • Hi,

Many small inverters could run a cpap all night. Do turn off the humidifier.

Some units come with a power brick--measure the output--it may be that the unit itself is 12 volts dc already.
  • How about a 12 volt CPAP
