I had a guy call from India with the "your computer is going to crash in 45 minutes" scam. Originally hung up on him, but when he called back I had some fun for about a half hour. I even told him that the longer I kept him on the line, the less chance he had to scam someone else, but he still wouldn't give up.
A guy I worked with had a similar experience last month. A guy called and said he was from Microsoft and convinced my workmate to let him take over his computer to fix the "error". When he did, the guy downloaded a virus that locked my workmate out of his computer and they wanted him to pay a ransom to get it unlocked. He ended up having his hard drive reformatted and loosing all his data.
This is what I find so upsetting about these various scams...:S
Your workmate is probably a fairly intelligent person "BUT" he fell for it... :h
Which is why... these scammers will never quit.
They always manage to find someone to hook.
