- BarabooBobExplorer IIII am 65 and refuse to believe that I only have a set number of years of camping ahead of me. I have to get older, I refuse to get old. My dad started to get old the day he retired. At 57 I was forced to retire, I got a part time job that allows me time to travel whenever I want. I love it. My wife and I are on the road at least 2 full months out of the year and are planning to be gone more net summer. I plan on wearing out a couple of trucks before I check out.
- pnicholsExplorer IIOff topic but perhaps somehow remotely related:
I once watched a movie in which the main character was immortal and was around 1000 years old in the movie. This character was very sad and wouldn't have desired any other person on Earth to ever be immortal like he was. The reason -> because everything and everyone in his life that he had come to love eventually was gone or had died.
Maybe we all die after a number of years for our own good. :h - Cloud_DancerExplorer III don't want to get old, and I don't want to die. Dilemma....

Ed I see you are from Rowan, Mrs. Farran was one of my teachers. I went to Rowan now and then to play pool, we played baseball there and basket ball every year. I didn't know that RV's made it to Rowan yet. Nice to run across someone that knows how high corn can grew. Do the kids still steal water melons from you farmers.fullmoonoversalem wrote:
I used to think that 70 was old too. Having had experience as a camp host for years, I find that who the driver is, the driver's health, personality, and patience, and experience is as much as a determinate of good driving as much as age.
If your physician says your healtlhy and you are physically able to drive and tow, you should be OK. What does your opthalmologist say aobut your eye health. Can you get somseone to "check you out" by riding along, following you, and observing you manipulate your vehicles?
When camp hosting (we also worked a boat launch) we watched loads of people back their trailers up. I think experience and ego are the biggest factors in a person's ability. I have seen 40 year olds take 20 min to situate their TT and an 85 year old guy, who got out, took a look at the site then backed up once and was situated. The big factor was experience with both of them. Unfortunately the 40 year old refused help with directing and backed up into a post smashing his brand new toy hauler back. Couldn't get the toys out to play with.
There are a lot of people out there to help you. Few will refuse if you ask.
I love it! It is more about skill and experience than age. I realize there is a point to quit but I think most people will know when that is. I am 74 and can still drive and back up just fine, but I do realize that I am getting older so I try and be extra careful. I don't put in the hours or miles that I did when I was young. I used to think that 550 miles was a perfect day and 800 was doable, now I think 350 is a big day! Ability, experience, and common sense is more important than age. - Dixie_FlyerExplorer III just turned 78 years old in April. I am blind in my left eye. Need surgery on my right eye which might end my driving. I guess it depends on how good you are physically and how alert you are as to what is going on ahead of you. I have seen some lousy drivers in their thirties and younger. some have it, some don't.

- hornet28ExplorerMy TV is a loaded 07 GMC classic LTZ CC dually LBZ/Alison. Yes it's a very comfortable ride and the truck is never straining. Part of my recent trip was through Idaho on 2 lane rds, Boise to Salmon, that I'd done done a few years ago in an older dually with a 454 and 4spd pulling the same trailer. I was whipped after that run then but not this year. It was very enjoyable

I'm 75 and just got back from a trip pulling my 36' car hauler not my 5th wheel. It was a tad over 5200 mi in 8 days. Some can do it and some, even a lot younger, can't
I agree I am but 72 and I went 6800 miles to get to Florida last year! Bit of a side track to Las Vegas and several other states. Pulling my Jayco TT at 38++ feet with a GMC LTZ Duramax is just like sitting in a lazyboy watching Ross Pierrot (time stamp here). - hornet28ExplorerI'm 75 and just got back from a trip pulling my 36' car hauler not my 5th wheel.
