He has the 65 RFE. The 2500 uses the 66RFE and that came out the same year.
The 545RFE was listed as a 5 speed, but it had 2 different 2nd gears that could kick up or down differently depending on conditions. The 65RFE is an upgraded 545RFE with a different converter but still has the 2 2nd gear modes. It uses the same case as the 545RFE. The 66RFE is basically the 68RFE guts stuffed in a 545RFE/65RFE case. The 66RFE is used with gas powered HD trucks and the 68RFE is used with the CTD.
