We always have roadside assistance and over 20 years have only used it 3X. 2X were for changing a tire. Those big tires are just too big and heavy for DH to handle now. We do have a spare so obtaining a replacement is not part of the issue as with some people.
One flat occurred on I65 just south of Nashville. It was very scary watching the service man change that tire on the drivers side. His rear was hanging out into the traffic with many transports whizzing by him. I guess the bottom line is that maybe you are able to change the tire yourself but the location can be the problem.
For less than $100/year I think the peace of mind is worth the cost.
