There is no mention about increased rates at the City's municipally run campground.
These are special prices just for the 150th celebration in our Nation's capital. They are turning parks into campgrounds for the weekend.
The price sounds outrageous, but the tax payers in Ottawa shouldn't have to bear the burden of set up /clean up of these sites. Porta potties and dumpsters for the weekend will cost quite a bit, not to mention the rehabilitation of the grassy areas and extra cleaning of the recreation facilities themselves.
My bet is that the hotels are also increasing their rates for the weekend.
We stayed in a campground in Kenai. Alaska last year and the price doubled overnight, because of the opening of dip net season, and then dropped again once dip net season was over.
The City of Ottawa is looking to recover costs incurred, expecting an in rush for the festivities.
I won't be one of the people getting gouged.
Happy 150th Canada!!
