Like said above! Dress up in old clothes and pitch your tent and throw you garbage out the door. There will be no recourse because you are "Homeless". It is happening everywhere nowadays.
I agree it is pricey and will turn a lot of people away.
As for the health care here vs US. You may get quicker service in the US but you need pretty deep pockets.
Some of the problem here is that a lot of Doctors leave Canada to go to the US for bigger money.
Years back my wife wound up in an out of province hospital in ICU on a ventilator for 10 days and several weeks stay altogether and narrowly dodged death. That never cost us 1 penny out of pocket. I can't imagine the bill for that one. I know, we pay for it in our taxes whether we claim cash or not.
Last year we were on a day trip into the U S and I had chest pains and was rushed to the emergency thinking heart attack.
They kept me overnight and did every test known to man. The bill for the overnight stay was just short of $24,000. Thank god for good travel insurance. Turned out to be gal bladder attack.
If you don't have a good health care plan I suspect there would be a lot of lower income people that can not afford to get help unless it is an emergency.
Our system is definitely not perfect but I would not trade it.
