I agree, the best camping is just now coming up. We've been somewhere every week-end for the last several weeks now. The state parks are getting more and more empty. We stayed Thursday through Monday, and Thursday and Sunday night we were the only camper on that side of the campground. Talk about DARK nights! Awesome! No noisy neighbors, no kids riding their electric cars at 6:00 am!
We try to camp all the way until November 1, when the state parks in Indiana turn off the water. Even then, we still continue to winter camper sometimes, by bringing water in jugs, and reverting our water and cooking style back to the old tent camping days, with the advantage of warmth from the furnace and a bed off the ground!
No reason to retire the camper just because it get's cold. Yea, winterize the lines for sure, but just pretend the camper is gigantic tent with a few conveniences, and do all the water and cleaning outside. Use pit toilets or take a port-a-potty that can be dumped into a pit toilet or somewhere else, and keep enjoying that camper.... even in the coldest of temperatures!
Camping in the snow is a remarkable experience!
