We have been towing a 2007 Jeep Compass for about a year now. I have a Roadmaster tow bar and base plates. The Compass tows like a love sick puppy dog. I don't even know it's back there. The car is a 5 speed and I do have to turn the key to unlock the steering wheel. I did have a key made up that doesn't have the buttons on it just for towing.
