Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is Mich Bill,
We currently have a 2001 Grand Cherokee Lorado 4X4 toad. We love it. However, we are looking for a newer one. The FMCA towing guide says that it has to have quad drive or trac. I'm not sure what that is. I have been told that this is only on the Limited and only comes in 8cyl. We are looking at 2008,9 or 10. Does anyone have experience with these?
Thanks
Bill

  • If you have a transfer case that allows selection of high and low, you should have a neutral position. It's the single speed transfer cases that can't be towed 4 down.
  • I am certain our 2015 Grand Cherokee Summit has a neutral switch for disengaging the transmission. However we do not tow it. We tow our 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (DH daily driver) I do recognize the switch though, since I am usually the one who puts the Trailhawk into 'tow mode' when we hook and unhook.
  • Basically the transfer case must have a neutral position. Some do, some don't.
  • When I had my Jeeps you had Quadra Drive and Trac which is AWD. You could only select four wheel high, neutral and four wheel low. Then you had Selectra Trac which was like a normal 4wd. You had 2 wheel high, 4 wheel high, neutral and 4 wheel high.
  • Quadra Track II and Quadra Drive II have the T-Shifter and Neutral button shown in this image.

    Quadra Track I does not.
