The factory shocks were probably the softest. We had a similar complaint about about our TJ, rough ride, low on power, etc. Loved that TJ, but got a JK. Now we still have rough ride, low on power, etc. :B
I put Bilstein 5100s on it, and of course it rides worse, but I got the sticker for the window! I rented a Saraha the other day at random for business and was shocked how nice the factory ride was. It wasn't great, but thinking back I wish I stayed with the factory shocks.
Love my Wranglers and they are the easiest in the world to tow. They definitely have their place in our recreation, however, it's the only Jeep I would look at. If I didn't want the Wrangler, there are many toads to look at outside of a Jeep product.
