just 2 observations

after just finishing our FL home state camping season with a 16 day trip to 4 state parks the dw and I noted 2 things
1. totally surprised at the number of very long trailers (like 30') being pulled by small suv's like volks touregs.
2. the number of people that seem to have a need to light up their campsite, and also all the neighbors, like a carnival midway all night long. I guess I can understand it if they would only shut them down when they go to sleep. We just do FL state parks cause we like being in the wooda and enjoy the dark and star gazing at night.

  • We've been camping/rving since 1988, and the trend has certainly been to larger and longer trailers, fifth wheels and motorhomes. Along with that, we've noticed how fewer people cook their meals outside or eat outside (weather permitting) and enjoy "traditional" camping. We did our family camping in a pop up, and if we were starting all over again, I think I would just want to upgrade to a hybrid with selfcontained bathroom. I think kids learn a lot from sleeping under canvas and a certain amount of "roughing it" rather than having a full house on wheels!

And, a lot of younger families could save a bundle of $$ (save it for college costs!) by camping in smaller units that don't need expensive tow vehicles!

As to lighting...I agree. I especially don't understand the need use rope lighting to outline your campsite. I do appreciate the LED awning lights I added, but I only use them when I need the lighting...otherwise, I'd rather sit outside with lower level lighting.
  • I've never understood why people go camping and insist on lighting up the campsite (or campground) like an operating room.
Are they afraid of the dark or don't realize most campers are not out to get them?
  • We also love state parks for the quiet and relaxation, and mostly, we get it :)
I have to say I haven't had ''many'' nightmare neighbors in the cg when we were there. we've been rv'ing state parks for at least 20 years and in all that time I have to say it is positive, not hardly any negative. I hope my next 20 are this nice also! :)
  • Believe me, none of that is unique to Florida, or even to state parks!
  • One of my "favorites" for sure...just love my neighbors lights to keep the inside of my fifth wheel lit up so I would not be frightened by the dark. And then there are the "smoke" pits....
