- derh20ExplorerSince several are talking about their experiences, here is a duzzy. here i am, packing the last item into our MH, which is parked in the front of our house on a cul de sac, and there was an older Mercedes smashed and pinned into the front of it. since the driver was not forthcoming with his driver's license, i went into my garage and called 911. when i came back outside, he was gone. the good news: while he was there i took a picture of him and the cops ID'd him; because it was considered hit and run, my deductible went from $1,000 to $100. $23,000 later, i got my MH back from the shop.

In about 1984 I got hit by a punk running a red light. He couldn't run as it disabled his truck. He was uninsured, but the truck was owned by his Grandmother. She claimed he took the truck without permission, so her insurance company denied coverage. My uninsured motorist had to cover it. My insurance company sued the driver and won. They said the first $500 they collected was mine to cover the deductible. I am still waiting. The only actual result is that he won't be able to get a TN driver's license as long as that judgement is on his record. I doubt if he cares.
Because of reciprocal agreements between states he will be unable to get a DL in another state until he satisifies that with the state of TN......I saw it hundreds of times in my many years as a driver license examiner.... - Houston_RemodelExplorer IIBack up camera and a dash cam.

- Water-BugExplorer III was rear ended by an unlicensed driver in Zanesville Ohio. He did a 360 and departed the scene. I got the last 4 digits of his license plate. A by-stander observed that it was a handicap plate. Called 911 and an APB went out. The perp was aprehended by a local sheriff 12 miles down the road. He was brought back to the scene and both the observer and I ID'd him. Turns out he borrowed his girlfriend's mother's car without permission. (Or so they claimed). I fought my insurance company for nearly 3 months before they would pay, even though I had uninsured motorist coverage.
- bigcitypopoExplorer IIi made a claim... My deductible is $100. I've been on the job 15+yrs... Very rarely do we catch those punks... No wonder why our rates are so high....
- noe-placeExplorerA hit and run like this has virtually no chance of being solved. Worked many of them & only found the offender in maybe 1 or 2 incidents over 23 years.
- rk911Explorerwas the driver caught and ticketed? report the damage to your insurance. they should go after the driver.
- Dog_TrainerExplorerNeed to file a report so the Insurance company does not charge you with an at fault accident. That happened to me when a car hit mine in a parking lot and I filed a claim without a report.
- Homer1ExplorerFiling a report is the right thing to do. Just for the reasons the poster indicated.
Not incidentally the original poster did a hell of job on the emergency repairs.
