Just for fun

Forgive me if this is a completely stupid question (I'm new :))but , do any of you take your RV's somewhere just for fun? Not because you are going camping or getting gas or tires or whatever, but simply because you want to take it.
  • I use my little C-minus more for local trips than 'traveling' these days. I mostly use it for astronomy stuff... formal club stargazes or just me. Some trips are just 'til midnight or so, then come home, like on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Two of the places we do stargazes at allow overnight stays (one in GSMNP, one on a private mountaintop). Either way, it's nice to have a couch, kitchen, bathroom, and in winter, a warm room.

I also take my 19 footer downtown on nice Saturdays in spring & fall. I park it at a meter in one of the few level parking spaces in town. I use it as a base for window-shopping, wandering downtown, listening to street musicians, going to the main library, and just hanging out.

  • Another music festival/concert attendee. Lucky for us, I am a concert photographer. Two weeks ago, we shot a band at the Tulalip Casino. We spent the night in their parking lot/camping spot so no expense there and made a few dollars. Last night we drove 20 miles south in the TC to shoot Ana Popovic. We had planned to stay overnight at the local Walmart and do some landscape photography in the morning but decided to drive home as it was 10 degrees. We had guest passes so saved $60 for tickets and ate our dinner along the Skagit River. Our Tc is so versatile. And, it is nice to drive I5 in an F250 instead of the Tacoma.

Also, this summer, I have 3 music festivals to shoot in the Pacific Northwest. Free camping and free admission. One provides food but the other 2 don't so can use the camper for meals. Plus, we have solar so I can be charging batteries and download to the Mac what I shot for the day. It is not really camping but just a very convenient place to stay while listening to live music and documenting the event with my still photos. Sometimes I get paid by the bands.
  • Yup! Our Sportsmobile "B" is our second vehicle and often can be seen on the parking lot of our local grocery store. And/or restaurant, department store, etc.
  • Yep, that's the kind of stuff I was meaning. Of course the camping is fun! I guess I should have said non-camping adventures. :) I was just wondering if you all used you're RV's for other stuff too. These are some good ideas for uses, keep 'em coming.
  • You mean like a road trip?

Most of my RV mileage is road trips, 50 miles to 5000 miles. Sometimes a 15-30 mile drive to exercise it on a warm winter day, with a lunch stop somewhere.

Probably 2/3 to 3/4 of the nights slept in it have been "camping" at one of our many local reservoirs.
