How you choose to pay for large purchases is your own business and all should have the confidence to stand up for what they know about their finances with little comment to those of a different persuasion.
There are few initial large purchases I've made that weren't cash purchases BUT that was just being in the right place at the right time. Oh right and using my brain.
Still, have had no problem adding to my assets by mortgaging my primary residence or other real estate properties as long as the math works in my favour.
I may be ready to retire in my early 60's but I should be fine for any bad times that could come. Got enough types of insurance and cash reserves to keep me content.
Oh right and if I die early my descendants will go to college without my knowledge; works for me since I don't believe I came here full blown for it to be all about mememe.
