It looks like there is no overwhelming consensus one way or another.
I think going forward, I will try to do what I can to keep the dogs out of public areas. I will try to have them go in out of the way areas (still cleaning up after them, of course) if the dog exercise area is still too intimidating for them. Penny (the puppy) is getting better at house training and even goes to the door to let me know she needs to go. So maybe future CG stays will be more predictable with her potty needs.
