kidde recall

Update to my previous post.

Spent most of the morning trying to get a hold of Kidde when I finally got through I was given another number to call and was on hold for about 25 minutes before someone finally answered. Was told that my unit replacement was on back order and that they did not have any idea as to when I would receive my replacement. I then explained to the lady that I would be leaving the US in about a month and had no idea as to what would happen to any shipments that would arrive after my departure. I then asked her to change the address so that it would go to my Canadian address but she said that she was not able to do this, that when I got back to Canada I would have to start over again with the reps there. So I guess that I will just wait and see . Not impressed with them at this time.

I had 7 on the recall list, they were all replace no problems and came quickly

I took both ext out of my RV and they both needed replaced by the warranty recall. Went online and filled out their form listing both on there and a couple weeks later got one replacement in the mail, not sure where the other one went or is. Emailed the company a week ago and still no reply, guess I need to call them. Sure would be nice to have a tracking system on them to tell when they ship!!

They recalled 38 million of these things. No surprise there've been a few glitches.

Called them today and explained I've been waiting since mid-November for my replacement. They took my info and sent it to the "escalation dept." and said I should get an email in a week. Wondering if this is even worth it.

The lady I spoke to about my recently purchased extinguishers was VERY polite and helpful. She confirmed they are part of the recall. I said they were in my boat 1,300 miles away and would not be there til spring. She said no problem gave me a ticket # so all I have to do is call her give ticket # and extinguisher numbers and serial numbers. EZ CHEEZY!!!

I had the above Kidde extinguisher. linky. It was the Canadian model E10 and it WAS PART OF THE RECALL.

I had to call Kidde and not use the recall website. If anyone has a Kidde extinguisher and they are confused by the recall website, place the extinguisher on the dinnete and call Kidde's 800 #. They'll ask you to tell them the model #, serial #, and (I think) the MFG date code. Kidde will tell you over the phone if it is affected by the recall or not.

Phone call IS the best way especially if you are not sure or the website does not work correctly.

The website while it is a good tool, it does have some issues.

I used the website as soon as I read the notice, the website was not clear and neither was the official recall notice that was posted on their website..

I assumed that it was any plastic handled units and entered the SN from my unit and website accepted it as recalled.

Received the replacement with a BETTER document which had clear pictures of what is recalled and what is not.

My unit had the CURVED HANDLE which is not recalled in the US.

I felt bad about it and called Kidde to find out what to do, after a few minutes they told me to keep both for my troubles since it was their mistake and the website should have rejected mine.

I must say, very good customer service in spite of the mixup and lack of good information initially on their website.

They have at least put that video that I linked on their website and it really helps to visually show the differences.

Gotsmart, you bring up a good point that Canadian versions may be different and if I remember correctly they do now have a separate link for Canadian recall..

For folks in Mexico, they also now have phone number for you to call..
