I had the same problem but with a faucet that had a separate sprayer. I could not solve the problem so I replaced the faucet with a new one. That solved the problem but I was curious as to why the problem existed so I started to take the old faucet apart. What I found was that the sprayer had a diverter valve that was stuck. This valve allowed water to go to the sprayer. If your faucet has a spray and stream setting, then this may be the problem.
