Lack of quality

So last nite the wife and I met my inlaws at the RV show in Denver, we have a TC, they have a Class C. We spent about 5 hours looking at all the different brands and types and I was really amazed to find the amount of defects and general poor workmanship. I understand that its a show and there are people going in and out and kids running around that would account for scratches and dings but Im talking about manufacturer defect, gaps at the bottom of shower walls between pans, doors that wont close or are loose or poorly aligned. It would seem to me that if you were going to send a camper to a show for all the world to see then why wouldnt you go over it with a fine tooth comb to ensure that people see what was intended as oppose to what they get? It wasnt just one manufacturer or type of RV it was all of them. I dont think I will be buying anything new, I prefer that old, quality built, solid, out of business companies I guess.

  • It was told to me by a dealer "we dont take time to go through the units due to the fact that after the show we have to fix what gets damaged why go through them twice"
And this is what i heard out of that statemant"if we go through these units that cost us money with nobody to absorbe it for us"

Yup! Not really a lot to be proud of as a manufacturer when you send out a unit for the whole world to see that has obvious workmanship defects. America can do better!

Or even better if they had quality control before selling the units or leaving the mfg!

Exactly. The brass plated plastic and disco lights on the awning are supposed to distract you from what really counts in an RV.
  • Seems to be a common theme, but sadly also, seems the buying pubic allows it to continue via demand for low prices. As long as buyers accept this and purchase anyway, we'll just live with this industry standard. I'm sure some are better than others, but in general, all put out some sloppy work.
