Ladder Mounted Bike Rack

I saw one of these on a MH and am thinking this maybe a better way to haul one bike. Currently I haul the bike on the back of my toad. What are your thoughts? Would the bouncing going down the road cause damage to the ladder? We have a 2011 29' Monaco Montclair.

I would agree with this...of course you do not want to overload the ladder either. But for a bike or tow on somethign that is made to hold 200lbs or more, I would think as long as you had them secured tightly to the ladder (both wheels) and have no movement, then it should suffice...The ladders are made to hold some weight...trailer bumpers generally are not (although some do)...

I would contact your rig manufacturer and ask them about it...of course they will probably go on the side of err and so no, no matter what.
  • went through 2 or 3 of those ladder hangers, don't waste your time or money.
  • Many miles of the bike on the ladder. Secret is to keep it from moving - tie it down in more than one spot.
  • Used to haul our bikes on the ladder of the 5th wheel. Read of too many horror stories. Took ours off and carried inside. With the Minnie Winnie we have a bike rack attached to the trailer hitch. At present, we do not have a toad. Given all the things that can go wrong hauling anything on a ladder, I will find some other way to haul whatever.
  • I would advise against it. I used to haul two bikes on the ladder. Seems the ladder is now twisted a bit. It may depend on how strong the ladder is, how many supports are used to connect the ladder to the mh. Unless the toad setup you have is a problem, stay with it.
  • I never had any problems with mine. Of course, I made sure the bikes were securely attached top and bottom. There will be others chiming in saying they've seen wildly bouncing bikes on ladder going down the road.
