I used to have a yellow-ish glass lens for my Coleman lantern. I got it because it did not attract skeeters as much, but it also quieted down the brightness. Maybe they are still available ?
I still remember two things about them - how fragile those ash mantles are and how REALLY HOT they get. I think you can cook dinner over the top of one of those lanterns.
