Leave water in fresh tank ?

I was told every time to drain the fresh water tank when not using for a week or so
I see the PO has Aqua Fresh in a bottle but how the heck would I get it in the tank ?
I know how to fill with a garden hose but not dumping it out of a bottle in the tank

Pour it into the hose before connecting to the water faucet.

Ahh ok so it’s pressure on the hose that lets it fill, I assume with the pump shut off to do this ??
I see the lever that you turn to “fill” I did read the manual as best I could on my phone but I’m still confused,
So if I want to add bleach and get it to the water heater too I have to dump it in the hose ??
Then turn on hose so pressure will push water in the tank, then turn hot and cold water faucets on till I smell bleach
But when all done and I want to drain everything including the water heater just st empty the tank via drain then with pump on turn on all faucets,, this will drain most of the water heater too ??
Thx so much for all the help and guidance

I'm sure I'm an outlier but I've drained the tank once in 11 years. It sits days/weeks/months at a time. I add water each time for the next trip. Yes, we drink it too. It's nice having an option if the house loses power (no 240V generator for the well pump).

It may matter that it's stored in an insulated, heated building that doesn't get too warm in the summer either.
  • “Its rare we travel with a full tank of fresh water...”

Toooo many beautiful dry campgrounds in the West to travel without a full fresh water tank. I fill the fresh and dump the waste tanks at every opportunity.
  • It gets hot here (100-110 degrees) in the summer months. Its rare we travel with a full tank of fresh water so I always dump the fresh water and hot water tank. The fresh water easily fills with a good hose made for that purpose. I've never had a bacteria issue but I've heard of and seen others with that issue in their fresh water system. Its not worth a chance encounter with those types of bugs for my use.
  • That's not necessary. The tanks used in RVs are made with the same high quality plastics used in hospitals and will keep your water clean and drinkable for months. As long as you don't leave the fill cap off or the faucets open.

If it somehow gathered some moss, there's simple things you can do to restore it and still drink it. And that's 1 oz of bleach per 60 gallons of water. Scale that to your tank. Vinegar and baking soda round out the low cost methods of removing smells, and sweetening the water after it's been stored for a while

Water for humans only needs to be somewhat clean, not perfectly clean. Of course you'd want to have a filter on your drinking water tap.
  • Pour it into the hose before connecting to the water faucet.
