I really think that we are not giving credit to the younger generation, the (under 38) generation.
I realize that the economy is different across both the US and Canada. Both the provinces and states vary from one to the next. People in Alberta for instance, their income would be more than those in the east but the cost of living also is higher out west.
Most of the younger ones here where we are make great money. Especially if you have a trade, union or not. Plumber makes well over 100K, a cabinet installer the same. A girls I know make $30 hr doing secretarial work. Now there are lower paying jobs also. I think that the kids today want the toys, but they can afford them also.
To try to compare life to 20 or 30 years ago is next to impossible. We live in a different world. Something we can compare is our morals, our respect for family life our work ethics. Those are things we have control of individually. Society as a whole controls the economy.
No matter where we live there are going to be people who are willing to work, willing to save. People who put family first. There among those will be others that want everything but it has to be given to them. There are some that "by choice" live off the system. Then there are those who by no fault of their own are dependent on the system. It is that last group that I feel for. Those kids are not going to grow up having the opportunity as children to explore what is out there. To enjoy listening to crickets in the evening, or listen to absolutely nothing. To enjoy camping, to even know what an RV is.
So to answer the OP question rather quickly, no I don't think that there are less younger people camping.
