Cost is always a consideration - though folks don't realize how cheap camping can be once the initial equipment investment is paid.
The big reason is work schedules. Not just working too much, but jobs have changed.
Many to most young couples we know - someone has to work weekends. They don't have two days off together but a few times a year.
Of course, the activities in which today's school age children are involved in make scheduling harder.
