My neighbor; Mad Jack Taylor; built a home made covered wagon out of car axels and went across the country many a time being pulled by his mules. He is quite the character. He's quite old now and the mules are dead. But, he would get in a lot of local papers when he rode slowly through town. This was back in the 70's and 80's .
Saw him at the local bar once. The mules were holding the wagon on a hill. A few hours later he staggered out of there, fell into the wagon, told the mules to go home, and they took him home. During the trip home he was passed out in the back of the wagon. They knew the way but, didn't always stay in there own lane. They would always get over to the right when they saw/heard a car though. We learned to watch out for him and give the mules time to get out of the way.
