The problem is the limit on the receiver, not truck payload. I'll have more than 1K of truck payload left with the heavy tongue weight. But it does severly limit what I can load into the trailer (as that partially goes on the tongue, too).
And nope, doesn't seem practical to upgrade the receiver, since the existing is an integral part of the truck's bumper system.
