You were right, I had the small 10lb tanks at the time: Thanks for the info,
did not realize they had a restriction on the bigger tanks.

I also leave NJ at ~2AM, gets past most of the DC mess before rush hour.

You were lucky, I guess, if you have standard 20 lb. tanks. The max container size is 10 lbs. (max 10, 10 lb. containers per vehicle). Motorhomes with fixed tanks are definitely out (mine's 80 lbs.).

With regard to the route itself, as someone else said I-95 just plain sucks from NY to DC, and then again as you get to SC. I haven't done the trip in a few years now, but we would usually leave our Northern-NJ home around 1-2 AM so we can cruise through the heavy traffic areas before the masses get there. If you make the trip non-stop, that does put you in the Myrtle Beach area in the early-afternoon timeframe which you don't want to do on a Saturday (rental house move-in time).

Depending on which Campground you are going to. You may not have to run 95 at all in SC. If you are going to the North Myrtle CGs, like Myrtle Beach Travel Park, or Apache you can get off at on 74, and go thru Tabor (410) city to 701 to 9 to 31 to 22 and right on to the access road, and actually you can do that going to south MB as well. Just run 31 all the way to 544.

I have driven that route many times and I95 just sux from NY past DC! Last time we went south from LI in NJ we took 78 west to I81 south to I66 then cut over to I95 by Fredericksburg. A much better ride. A layover point is Fredericksburg KOA, which is about 8hrs from East End of LI. Then continue on to MB the next day. The first time I drove straight through 14 hrs and would never do that again. If you stick to 95 you can go around the Baltimore Tunnel I have never gone through it as there is no need for that.

Nothing in South Carolina to worry about other than the millions making their pilgrimage to MB/Mecca
Personally I travel the older state roads in SC to avoid as much of the MB traffic as possible.... have seen it back up the traffic on other interstates too On the 26/20 interchange in Columbia as far back as Pomaria....miles long, kinda like a rolling road block of suv's, mini vans with bicycle racks and coolers.
I think you will probably be jumping off 95 around Dillon SC and all your traffic mess will begin there, always worse around the 4th of course.
The traffic finally becomes inescapable the closer you get there.
If you roll in on the weekend try to do it early, early in the morning before the sun comes up. The week days other than fridays would be a good choice too.
No Tolls and I dont know of any tunnels, restrictions around there Im aware of.
There has been a Gazillion campers pulled there for at least 50 years. No other headaches for you other than the traffic.

Just do the truck route(outer loop) around Baltimore, to miss the tunnel downtown. Propane is no problem except for the tunnel. Don't know hot to get from LI to I95, but I don't remember any tunnels or propane restrictions. .
