Look up this Friday 5/23. The sky will be falling.

I must be easy to please. My 10 year old daughter and I sat out for about an hour. We say 5-6 things in the sky. One was bright and quick. But we were entertained none-the-less.

Yep,, big DUD!! Sat out for an hour and a half,, NOTHING!! On the flip side,,Sure was a nice night to sit out and have a drink!

I set my alarm for 2am, and sat outside for an hour; saw 6 "average" meteors and a handful of very faint ones. Wasn't worth losing the prime-time sleep, IMO - but you never know. The way my luck runs, had I slept through it, it would have been EPIC meteor storm...LOL!

But while I was gazing at the beautiful stars and pondering things - it made me realize that perhaps, a few good scientists made an educated guess, the media got hold of it and ran with the news of the amazing event-to-come. And there sat thousands (millions?) of people, waiting for the show that never happened. Scientists CAN be wrong, after all - and of course the media will always make a mountain out of a molehill. sigh.

Yep. I saw one (yes, _ONE_) that was actually memorable, in 3+ hours from 1:30 to about 5 AM. Total of 15-20 in the whole time.

Obviously, someone forgot to pay the meteor bill this month.

I'm glad I didn't miss anything. I'm on the OBX and last night it turned cloudy and we had a monsoon.

The meteor shower was a dud.

Oh man!!!! Do I envy you, I hope you brought your tripod and camera! My "goal" in the next couple of years is to get to Great Basin to do some night photography.

I was lucky enough to get to Alaska a year ago this March. that was another "goal".

Frank, I think I understand this stuff.... Maybe. The local 'sky time' is the same, east coast or west coast. So a meteor shower that starts around midnight EDT would show up about midnight PST, too. It may be heaviest on the east coast, tho'. But I could be totally wrong on that. Best to confirm with the Sky & Telescope or Spaceweather websites. You can also enter '209P/LINEAR' in Google and see what hits you get.

Remember, this is a new meteor shower, so no telling what predictions will hold true.
