1/2 ton my doopah. If you're buying new get the 3/4 ton and be done with it. For 45K you can get a really nicely equipped 3/4 ton gasser in a crew cab, with the bed size of your choosing. When I bought my 2015 GMC which is a level 2 SLE in the options dept, double cab longbed, it stickered for a little shy of $53K, drove it out the door for $41K and change.
A 1/2 ton might have the numbers to tow, but it also has 1/2 ton brakes, rear end, springs, frame, cooling, basically everything other than the body and interior. Why shoot yourself in the foot. Its worth it just for the floater. Go to the dealer and lay on the ground, look under the 1/2 ton, then go look under a 3/4 ton. See the difference?
