Looking for Diesel Experience

I am moving up from a Fleetwood Bounder 34B to a diesel.  I am focused on either the Dutch Star 4018/4081 or the 4369.  Couple of questions.  Does size really matter lol? I am aware of the differences in layout and larger bath but more curious to hear about drivability and availability of campsites. Do you really feel that extra 3 feet? What were others experiences in going from a gas to diesel? Big jump for me going from 35ft to 43ft. I am a little hesitant going to 43ft and may stay with 40ft. Thanks

  • Bigger, heavier coach is definitely going to drive different. Probably better with the weight, wheelbase and air bags as well as the engine in the rear. Length is an issue with some campgrounds, backing , turning and passing, which all things considered is a fraction of the time. If you like state and Federal parks it will be a challenge. But if you stay to FHU campgrounds and plan ahead it should not be an issue. Drive them and see what your comfort level is like. Test drives should include parking and backing and pay attention to your field of vision and comfort level. As with all things, you get used to a lot very quickly.

  • My Dad has a 42 foot DP, he has no problems with it, but they do have to look ahead for campsites if they are going to something off the beaten path.   usually they are going to full hookup places that are large enough and have reservations.
