- NMDoyleExplorerWe just installed the RDS 45 gallon gravity feed tank. Easy to install and works just as advertised. We ordered from Amazon, thru Northern Tool.
- wanderingbobExplorer III just tapped into my filler tube by drilling a hole thru the filler neck and tapping a hose barb ./ Re-enforced with Marine-tex . Works great , eight years now >
- mpierceExplorerGet a used Reefer Trailer tank. Aluminum, either 30 or 50 gallons. Rotate the straps that hold it to the bottom of the trailer around 180 deg, and bolt to floor of bed. Has a fuel gauge on the end of the tank. Tap into the filler tube with kit.
- dapperdanExplorerI have close to the same set up as Wanderingbob, I just open the the valve after I'm down around a quarter tank and let 'er fly. Pretty soon I'm back to the "full" mark. Works GREAT, I love it.
- pointrowExplorerI have seen step tanks off of dump trucks used. They are about 30 gal or so and fit in front of the hitch on a short bed.
I use a gravity fuel transfer from Northern and have had no issues except it plays tricks with the trucks fuel gage until it finally empties. No big deal once your used to it. - okeehandymanExplorerI have used an electric automotive fuel pump to transfer fuel into a tee in the small vent line of the fill tube. The pump used 5/16 fuel line and required quite a long time to transfer 35 gallons. My main tank was 42 gallons. I would turn the pump on when the main tank gauge was showing about 1/8. When driving, the fuel being used would be replaced so slowly, that I never had an overflow situation. If I had noticed the fuel tank gauge getting close to indicating FULL, I would simply shut off the transfer pump.
- wanderingbobExplorer III gravity feed into the factory neck on my 5.9 , no connection to the vent or return line. If I forget to shut it off , nuttin happens .It does not run out all over the ground it just stops running . Mine is 1/4 inch and works fine . When I get down to a quarter tank or so ,I step out and open the valve in back of truck and let her rip for an hour or so .
- ivbinconnedExplorer IIGood morning consultants. I am going with a tank out of a 550 Massey Combine. (65 gal)! Now I am trying to decide how to "transfer" the fuel. I was about to order the Northern Tool "Gravivity Flow Control Valve" but read some reviews and if there are any complaints it is that it is very slow on account of the 3/8 conections.
We do drive in winter around here!!
So am thinking to go with a electric fuel pump although I am concerned with having to remember to shut it off!!
Also I was thinking that I would "tee" my feeding line into the vent line that runs parellel to the filler tube.(2006 Ram 5.9).
Thoughts?? - 2oldmanExplorer II
