If you both enjoy theater or concerts, how about tickets to a show somewhere in your travels?
Another thing we enjoy is an annual membership at our little city zoo. $65 per year for family membership. It's a fun place to take a walk year round, and it's a member of the AZA, which gets us free or reduced admission at a whole host of zoos and aquariums around the US.
The gift shops at science museums and national/state parks usually have unique items, too. We've found books on many subjects from birds to geology to local history. I'm rather fond of my National Parks Passport book, too.
