My thoughts yes you reach a point with an older vehicle/RV where it is not reasonable to spend a lot of money on repairs. I do believe you may be at that point. $6K in repairs can go a long way towards a new unit.
Where your thinking is skewed is that you are basing the entire purchase of the RV on your local service scenario. using your logic No one withing 200 miles of you should own an RV because there is no where to service it.
Use the internet to shop the entire country. Your 70K RV can suddenly be a 60K RV with a bit of research. That $10K savings can go a long way towards avoiding your local dealers.
Yes you will have to be proactive to make this work. You will need to research and comparison shop. Won't hurt to talk to manufactures concerning using mobile tech's or independent RV shops. You will also have to find the local Ford truck dealer that can service the chassis of your RV.
You are wise to take a pause and analyze the entire situation. However you also need to take a deep breath and take a more positive approach vs. your gloom and doom all I have is CW rant.
Buying an RV is an exciting time it should be enjoyable not full of anxiety.
Put your anxious energy to good use and start your research. It's OK to take a step back from RV'ing while you plan your next move.
If you determine new is the way to go than start with the unit you like and research like models and pricing. Do not limit yourself to just the local dealers. If your local dealers are no good. There is an entire country out there with lots of RV dealers looking to make a sale.
Good Luck ..........Stay positive
