Looks like we're off the road for the foreseeable future.

Well, this stinks so what follows is mostly a whine, but if anyone has any feedback, I'd appreciate it. Our current RV's transmission is shot and we just can't justify putting the money into it when it's 20 yrs. old and also needs new tires, plus some other work to keep it going. Things have been failing at a steady rate the last couple of years and enough is enough. If I'm going to toss thousands at something, I'm going to look for something new.

I thought this was a great idea. But... We're pretty much limited to two dealerships nearby. One's a camping world and the other's private. The CW gets really crappy reviews and the other gets okay reviews, but only sells Jayco and Winnie, neither of which offer floor plans we like. We want go go with a C and had fallen in love with the Thor Chateau 31W but it can only be gotten from the Camping World. Everything in me screams "bad idea" when thinking of dealing with them based on the reviews and the sort of icky feeling I get when I talk to them.

We could go with RVDirect and deal with them for the purchase, but then we're still stuck with the CW for service. We're not fulltimers, so we're not in a position to be driving three plus hours up the road every time the thing needs warranty service (and I know it will because they all seem to).

So, since we're limited in choices for both purchase and service, it looks like we're out. I'm not putting 70K+ into something that's going to be nothing but pain from purchase to service. We could go used and then be free to deal with any service dept. we choose, but I really wanted to go new this time and avoid other people's problems. Plus, again, we're limited in purchase options here and not that many larger C's turn up.

Oh, well. Maybe we'll get back in in ten years when we can retire and fulltime our way to better dealerships and service centers. Sucks that the industry isn't any better than this.

How much is the transmission and tires anyway?
I would repair what you have and spend the next year soul searching what you really want to trade up to.

We're looking at 5-6K total for the work. And that's if nothing else fails that we can't fix ourselves.

Have you thought of Campersinn in Mocksville, NC?

I looked into them, but couldn't find much review-wise. I'd be willing to go there for a purchase if they're good, but they're close to 4 hours away for service.

For something as big as purchasing a new MH, I think that distance to the seller isn't an issue. Take a look at the various dealers who advertise on the internet and in magazines and give them a call. If the dealer is responsive to your queries, then its might be worth the trip to drive down and take a look or even fly for a good deal.

Yeah, but then I still have to have it serviced locally and best I can tell, the only place here that will do warranty work on a Thor is the crappy CW.
