And all those lug nuts didn't come off at the same time. Wheels make a lot of noise when they are loose.
Not necessarily so. About 12 years ago, someone removed ALL the lug nuts on the left rear of my Chevy 2500. I drove 2 1/2 miles and was doing 60 mph on I-94, when the wheel departed for parts unknown. It jumped a center cement barrier, dodged oncoming 5 PM traffic and disappeared, never to be seen again. I skidded to the shoulder and assesed the situation. All the lugs were intact, and since I was running empty, I borrowed 2 lugnuts from the other three wheels and mounted my spare. I then drove the remaining 50 miles home without further incident. That cold beer that I drank as soon as I got home, sure tasted good. Probably the best one that I ever had.
