Your graph is a little out of date. The latest LI is a solid state battery with twice the energy density of existing LI. It is apparently dendrite free when doing super charging.
Since consumption is 2 kwh per mile doubling battery capacity either halves the size (and weight) of the battery bank--or doubles the range.
USA being left behind may be why there is a push to get back to the moon.
