Personally, I don't have confidence in Consumer Reports. I'm not saying they're wrong about the Fiat. But, I wouldn't buy or not buy something based on their report.
As a researcher by profession, Consumer Reports is one of the ONLY independent testing firms I trust. They go out with ma and pa and pretend to be buyers, not "special" factory-prepped perfect models. They don't allow their name to be used for advertising, and use real-life feedback from subscribers to create reliability records for products. I don't care for some of their "social goals" attitudes, but I don't subscribe for that and just ignore it.
