Loud Pickups

After rambling around West Texas for a couple of weeks and staying in campgrounds with a large number of oil field workers, I wish I could go back and apologize to all the folks I've annoyed with my noisy hot rods, motorcycles, and even a pickup or two. I'm old and cranky, now, I guess, but a diesel pickup leaving the campground at 5:am is really annoying! I'm glad they're working, but I WOULD like to sleep a little longer! I reckon it's payback for the sins of my youth.

  • There's nothing quite as depressing to me as listening to people go to work. I figure I'm in the wrong park.
  • Isn't it funny how this just becomes annoying as you get older? And to think, I thought it was really cool 30 years ago.

We recently bought the truck in my sig. It has a straight through muffler on it. I almost didn't buy because of that. After a month I'm still on the fence about whether I want to change it out or not.

If your youth was anything like mine...yeah, this is payback for your past sins. I grew up in a small town and some of us guys had cars that we modified the exhaust with headers that could be opened for the drag strip. We thought it was great fun to drive up and down the residential streets, late at night, with our headers open.

So now I'm punished every time I go out on the street as some young squirt pulls up next to me with his base woofers blasting out a beat that causes my dentures to vibrate and hearing aids pop outta my ears.

I just smile and drive on....

  • My Diesel is loud even more so when it's cold and the morning is quite. I try to start it and idle out of the campground as quick as possible.
  • I have no problem with loud diesels -- even when they do wake me up -- since that's how they came from the factory.
  • Several years ago i was working out of town and the rv park i was staying at came to me and told me to park my pickup outside the park as people were complaining about the noise in the morning.
