Love Bugs in Florida

I'll be headin' to Fla in a short time. If I get bitten by a love bug does that mean I'll fall in love?

No bugs here in NE Florida yesterday or today. They will be back in May.

Here in Lake County Florida (Clermont) they are pretty much gone (finally).

My lovebug routine is a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide with a tablespoon of car soap added to it spared onto a cool car/rv. Was it off with a hose and most of the bodies are gone. Then I hit it with the dryer sheet and its done.

I found using the dryer sheet alone was hard as it just got filled with the bugs in a few swipes.

Dryer sheets really do work and keep them in our rig at all times....and our cars. Just have to have a bucket of soapy water and rinse well to get the residue off, but works every time. Remember to wet them first.

They are still fairly heavy here in NE Florida although not near as bad as last weekend.

I live in Orlando and it seems like they have gone. For those who do not know they are attracted to white and other light colors. Last week mowing the lawn they were swarming around my white trailer. My truck parked a few feet away is a darker color and they were not interested. I was working outside today and did not see any love bugs. Of course, color does not matter when your driving down the highway as they will splat on any color.

RejeX is suppose to work real good. Just spray them off with a water hose.

I will on occasion use a clear plastic wrap called Road Wrap that I bought online. It is slightly sticky on one side and takes two people to get it on straight. I got the 24 inch rolls and slightly overlap them. The directions say not to leave it on over 7 days.

I am a big fan of a cleaner called Spray 9, which I buy at Ace Hardware. That spray and a love bug sponge will take them off better than anything else I have tried. The dryer sheets don't work for me. The new ones just leave a slimy mess on top of the dead love bugs. Dry ones don't work at all for me. May and September are the two bug months for them here in this part of south Florida. They seem to come out in swarms during the middle of the day. They are a real mess and nothing seems to eat them, not the birds, frogs, etc.

The love bug sponges feel somewhat abrasive but don't seem to cause any problems and they are made for cleaning off the nasty little bugs.

This was about an hours accumulation while driving on the Florida Turnpike. Of course, I had neglected to put the Road Wrap on the front of the 5th wheel before going to Orlando.

Still as thick as a fog in coastal GA and SC.
RV has not moved in a few months but the pressure washer gets used a lot on our vehicles. Plenty of wax and rain-x helps.
This is the worst I have seen them in the last three years.
