Uh, there is NO AIR in an LP tank.. Also LP gas is both odorless and colorless. The Odor you smell is added at the plant. By law.. but it might not be present in the gas portion that is in the tank.
But there is no AIR in the tank, once it is properly purged before the first fill.
The other myth "Air does not compress" Now think about this.. That think that blows up your tires to anywhere from 27 to 127 PSI,, What is it called.. AIR COMPRESSOR.. If Air does not compress, why do we have AIR COMPRESSORS... ?
If reducing gas pressure inside the propane tank allowed it to accept more liquid.. The station has a problem with the pump.
