How many of you use these on your toad towing 4 down? I just bought a new car and there isn't much room to wire the extra bulb into the rear tail lens. I don't want to do the diode wire as it splices ...

Using the diode and wiring them direct WILL NOT void your warranty on a GM product. Don't know about Fords or foreign automobiles.
