Three weeks ago a made an appointment to get our 5ver in for some work. When I arrived at their shop this morning they asked me if I had bought the unit from them which we hadn't. I was told that they wouldn't work on our trailer because we hadn't bought it there; the reason being that they were so behind in the service department. The tech told me they started this policy three weeks or a month ago which was about the time I made the appointment. Although this is the last time I do any business with them it's not the first and they have all my contact information. If they chose to turn business away that's their loss and I can live with that. My grip is that they didn't let me know so I wouldn't made the 60 mile round trip. The work that I scheduled wasn't warranty, although I was going to ask them to do a couple warranty items that came up after I made the appointment.

I don't blame them for having that policy although maybe they should bend it for previous service department customers.It was probably just a slip up that you weren't informed and a good service manager would have made an exception in your case.

I hear a lot of complaints about McClains, although I bought my unit there and have had good service. The techs seem to be knowledgeable and always very helpful, but the service manager doesn't seem to be on top of things at the location I use.At least you have many other options in the Denton area.

I have heard many complaints about McClains from people on another RV forum and it's not just the one in Denton - the bulk of them are about the one down from Denton - the one on I35W south of Fort Worth.I go by that one on the way to/from Cleburne and it's always got many units parked there,but I never have dealt with them and based upon what I hear about them,I won't.Take it for what it's worth.

Wow and it is a brand that the dealer sells.

I agree that McClain's is horrible. Just got a letter from the attorney general of Texas saying they had been sited for improper handling of our title and plates. They said that they were watching them and would fine them in the future. No way would I ever trust them again

Manufacturers do care what you think and how you are treated, at least Keystone is. I had a horrible warranty/non warranty experience with Primeaux RV in Carencro, La. I called Keystone and was advised research may take 2 or 3 days. After I faxed the invoice to them, within 2 hours Primeaux called with many apologies and a full refund of all charges, bogus and legit. Bad publicity is bad publicity.

I would NEVER EVER do business with a firm that had that attitude. Any service center is paid by the manufacturer for warranty work.
Good service gets repeat business.
Bad service eventually goes out of business...

Sooo, the RV's they sell are the only ones they will work on...And those are the ones that are keeping the service department swamped! Hmmm, guess I need to check what the sell! :?

Depends on the mfgr.

Mfgrs have "pulled the plug" on dealers in the past.

Bad news may not travel fast enough - but it travels just the same..:W

This all sounds just like the McClains in Rockwall. They do shoddy work and I'll never go back.

The maker of that brand might like to know about one of their dealers.
If they operate a successful dealership the manufacturer could care less how they do business as long as it doesn't reflect on them. RV dealers are all independent and can pretty much do what they please. They have no ties to a manufacturer other than they buy units from them and sell them for as much as they can. Not like the car dealers who operate under strict franchise guidelines. The more trailers they sell the happier the manufacturer is. What they do in their service department is of no concern.
