Medical Coding

Wife went to school for this years ago. She is looking to possibly do this from home now. She has worked at a credit union for last 35yrs. If she work from home or on the road,we could start traveling now.Does anyone have any contact information? How would you go about getting this work? Anyone know what the pay scale is for this. Thanks for any advice.

  • I really don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but as a retired Army nurse working in health care quality in the civilian sector for the past 21 years, I can tell you that 35-year-old coding training is out of date. As mentioned by a previous poster, ICD-10 was mandated for Federal fiscal year 2015 (beginning 10/01/2014), but was delayed (probably a year) just last week by a bill the President signed. Where ICD-9 numbered around 15,000 codes, ICD-10 bumps that up to around 70,000 codes. Add to that the fact that DRGs weren't even in use for billing 35 years ago and the advent of the electronic medical record, there would be some serious catching-up to do. PM me if I can be of any help.
  • My daughter works in medical records and coding. With implementation of the Affordable Care Act, they are converting to ICD-10 coding. So I'm sure she would have to go back for training on the new codes which is much more detailed. She could work through a staffing agency like Maxim. (not recommending that company just one like it). Google medical record coding remote or travel staffing companies.
