I am in agreement with this. The Medigap plans may be more expensive but there are no copays and the coverage is much better and is good nation wide. If one is fairly healthy and has good genes with a healthy family history, you can save some money with HMO's or PPO's. Most counties have volunteer councilors that will advise you. Best of lucki

We have Medicare and a United Health Care supplement thru AARP. Have been
in numerous hospitals across the country and have never had to pay anything
additional. Spent 1 1/2 years in Florida being treated for colorectal cancer--
chemo, radiation, surgery--the whole works.

I switched from a Plan F (United Healthcare) to a Plan G this year...saving about $100 a month. Only difference is that I am responsible for the Part B deductible which is $147 this year.

I would NOT recommend anyone considering going full-time have an Advantage Plan.

from their website: "SCAN offers a network of primary care doctors, specialists and hospitals. You must receive all routine care from in-network plan providers; except for emergent or urgent care situations or for out-of-area renal dialysis. If you obtain routine care from out-of-network providers neither Medicare nor SCAN will be responsible for the costs"
SCAN is a Medicare Advantage Plan which usually restricts coverage to geographic areas. I would consider regular Medicare and a supplement. I have used regular Medicare all over the country with no problems. If you think you need a supplemental policy to cover what Medicare doesn't pay, I would go with a national Medicare supplement like Blue Cross Blue Shield.

We have medicare and blue cross/blue shield of Texas. I have used both in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Washington with no problems what so ever...service included EGD procedure, ER visit and office visits. Just be sure the doctor/facility you will be using are PROVIDERS for your supplemental insurance...most will "TAKE" your insurance but if they are not PROVIDERS you will either be covered at the out of plan rate or not at all. Medicare seems to be honored everywhere.

Mutual of Omaha seems to be a national co.as is United Healthcare/AARP. The latter is expensive. I had a hard time finding a doctor who took Medicare patients, especially new ones. My previous MD of 20 years decided the low payout and hassle was not worth it.I think most hospitals take Medicare patients.

We have Medicare & Blue Cross/Blue Shield supplement - wife had to use it in AZ & it worked just like it does at home. The only thing you have to know is if the dr/hospital accepts Medicare.
