Metal Valve Stems

Be careful what you buy. i've bought two different sets that won't fit. I can't find any that fit my wheels. The hole for the valve stem is recessed and the nuts that hold the valve stem in place are to big to fit down into the hole. I may have found the only alternative after much internet searching I found the 17-428 from O'Reilly's that might work. I have not yet bought one to try out.

My tire dealer stocks stainless steel stems (but they do a lot of truck work). Ford dealer, most parts houses, will have steel or brass stems of various lengths to fit your steel wheels. You don't want them longer than necessary to get guage or chuck on the valve; shortest metal stems sometimes don't have truck clearance.

You don't need the long, specially formed Tireman or Borg dually stems. Folks here think you are asking about a dually.

Last time I was at Discount Tire to have a new Maxxis tire installed for my spare, they told me that they no longer stock metal valve stems.

I went to a local NAPA store and picked up a pair of stainless stems, and Discount Tire installed them.

So I would say to purchase a good set and take them with you to have them installed.

I also have the Borg one piece valve stems and they are great!

I bought the Gorilla brand and am not happy with the rust/corrosion. Just last week my son showed me quality stems from a Ford dealer, I'll use them next time.

After my rubber valve stems started failing (because previous owner didn't know squat about putting the correct ones on) I had stainless steel put on all around.

To the OP: You are ahead of the game 'knowing' you need them. Just ask the tire shop where you are getting the tires to show you all what's available and what he thinks is the bests. IMHO stainless steel in the way to go. :C

Another vote for the Tire Man,have had them on my wheels thru 2 sets of tires.
Easy checking of pressures with the included flow-thru valve stem caps.

I bought mine from Tireman. If necessary, I would again.
