MH crashes into home in Florida I75

Well here is but yet another blown tire and crash of a MH. :(

Happened just down the road where I am at. As was the other one last week where it caught fire and they rescued those girls.

Still seems like quite a few within a short period of time this past few months.

Would be interesting if 'someone' is recording what tires where on all these MH's. Could possibly point to a defective tire brand.

  • Brakes don't work during a blowout on a Class A. In fact it makes it worse! Here's an excerpt from the FMCA website:
The man said he had completed the course at FMCA’s convention in Perry, Ga., in March. Soon after, he experienced a tire blowout on his coach. He slammed on the brakes, and his coach was about to flip. “Suddenly he remembered what we had discussed during the course in Perry and recalled what to do.
What that grateful FMCA member did was follow the advice given in the RVAA RV Safe Driving Course: In case of a blowout or rapid loss of air on either axle, stab the accelerator to the floor to regain momentum in the intended direction of travel before gently removing your foot from the accelerator. Do not apply the brakes.
  • She said she lost a front tire first. Then after hitting a billboard and tree it looks like she lost the right rears too, before hitting the house.

THAT would make it pretty darn hard to steer!
  • That is a heck of a way to get a room addition. Glad no one was injured either in the house or the MH.
  • I often wonder if blowouts can take out a brake line.

Heck I had a rear blow out and it took out my entire sewage bay!

Blew right thru a heavy mudflap and right into the bay and destroyed everything in it's path.

I also 'personally' know what it's like to have the brake line collapse inside the hose....while coming off an interstate down an exit ramp with a MH! :E

So I could see how it could take out a flimsy rubber brake line or blow out the caliper leaving you without brakes.
  • Interesting and scary. I'm glad no one was hurt.

Let us know if there is an update on the investigation.

    Thanks for posting.
  • What ever happened to brakes? I mean even with a blowout brakes still work. Is speed the issue?
