Where do you store the cover? I bought a big plastic garbage can for mine. When uncovering, I just pull it up from the top, fold it over twoard the middle a few times, then get down and pull it into the garbage can folding like an accordian. This puts the front on the top of the can and when ready to cover, I just pull it out and over the top. No mice can get in the tightly covered can. And yes, if your cover is a loss, by all means, get a new one and cover the sharp edges.
