Sorry, I know how I may come across, but I wouldn't pull over the weight limit, and don't want to be too long...I am trying to do this safely and legally, only thing I am looking to fudge is the rental policy.
If you're looking to do this "safely and legally" this isn't the way to go.
Adding a trailer without approval from a rental wouldn't be legal at all.
You get into an accident, even a fender bender where nobody is hurt, you're in for a world of financial problems.
I'd drive 2 separate vehicles. Not worth the headache.
